Installation Tips

The beauty of luxury vinyl flooring is the ease of installation. However, the most important factor, in most floor installs, is a properly prepared subfloor.

FLOOR PREP

The subfloor is directly beneath your floor. It’s most likely wood or concrete. If wood, it should be two layers of exterior grade 5/8 plywood.

If it’s concrete, cracks and spalling should be repaired, as well as all unevenness with the appropriate primer and self-leveller.

GLUE DOWN

Begin by acclimating the new flooring overnight in the location where it is going.

Have the temperature slightly cooler. Vinyl planks do shrink in colder temperatures and expand in warm ones.

A properly prepped floor is the most important step. A smooth and level floor will offer you the best performance. This must not be underestimated for a lasting floor.

If you have a wood subfloor and use a self-leveller it is recommended to add a layer of exterior grade 5/8 plywood staggered to minimize deflection and be sturdy enough for any load.

We recommend using either Henry 695 or Eco 360 pressure sensitive adhesive for our glue down or loose lay planks while spreading the adhesive with a 1/16 1/16 1/16 spreading trowel.

Spread the glue and let it dry till tacky. Then install flooring and roll with a 100 lb weight.

Spread the pressure sensitive adhesive around the perimeter of the room, about an 12″ band, and let it dry till tacky, then install flooring. Some installers like to glue the whole floor to minimize movement. However, if the floor is installed properly and the temperature in the room stays consistent this is not necessary.

SPC CLICK

Begin by acclimating the new flooring overnight in the location where it is going.

Have the temperature slightly cooler, although SPC Vinyl Click board (Stone Plastic Composite) is very unlikely to expand or contract with temperature change because of the stone component. Our Konig SPC flooring is double tempered to minimize any expansion or contraction.

If you have a wood subfloor and use self-leveller it is recommended to add a layer of exterior grade 5/8 plywood staggered to minimize deflection and be sturdy enough for any load, though this step is more important if using a self-leveller with SPC Click.

Start at one side of the room and plan for the widths of your planks so as not to arrive at the other side with only a sliver of a plank. Make sure the room is square. Leave a 1/4″ gap all the way around for floating floors. A tapping block, or cut-off piece, may be helpful to tap the click mechanism into place.
